Juan Carlos, 75, the famous architectural designer, was found by cops at 9:33 a.m., Saturday, lying face down and naked in bed in his inimitable glass penthouse in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, located on the corner of Allen and Delancey. He was discovered by one of his personal assistants, who checked on him after he hadn’t shown up at the studio for almost a week. She called police when she noticed an odor that seemed to be coming through the front door.

A spokeswoman for the Medical Examiner’s Office said Mr. Carlos was a homicide victim who died from blunt-impact trauma to the chest, neck and ribs, and a stab wound to the chest.

Investigators suspect he may have met his killer on the street and brought him home. Mr. Carlos is the adopted son of the late Carlos film stars from the 1930s, the married Spanish acting duo who starred in classics such as “Tropicana Baby” and “Mambo Mamba.”

An exhibition of Mr. Carlos’ architectural design is being displayed for a limited time at the Museum of Modern Art located at 11 West 53rd Street.

Police are asking for any witnesses or leads to step forward.
